Moscow – The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Friday that it has arrested a member of an international “terrorist organization” active in Syria, during a special operation in the Zabaykalsky region in eastern Russia.
In a statement carried by Sputnik News, the FSB said the detainee is accused of financing terrorism, after adopting extremist ideology and receiving direct instructions via Telegram from senior figures within the banned organization.
According to the agency, the suspect allegedly transferred money to militant accounts to purchase weapons, vehicles, and ammunition, while also engaging in the promotion of terrorism online.
Authorities reportedly seized communication equipment, electronic payment tools, and documents during a search of the suspect’s residence, which the FSB said prove his involvement in illegal activities.

The regional investigation department has opened a criminal case under Article 205.1 (Part 1.1) of Russia’s criminal code, which covers “aiding terrorist activities.” If convicted, the suspect could face a life sentence.
Earlier this week, the FSB said it had foiled an attempted attack targeting a senior official in the Russian Ministry of Defense in Moscow. The agency claimed the plot was jointly organized by Ukrainian intelligence services and ISIS, leading to the arrest of four suspects – three Russian citizens and one national from Central Asia.
