Damascus, Syria – Syrian Airlines announced the suspension of all scheduled flights on Sunday as regional security tensions continue to rise amid ongoing missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.

In a statement released on Saturday, the airline said that all flights for Sunday were cancelled after Syrian airspace was officially closed due to security threats stemming from the escalating cross-border conflict.

“The suspension will remain in effect until further notice, in coordination with the relevant civil aviation authorities, to ensure the safety of passengers and flight crews,” the airline said.

Syrian Airlines advised passengers to stay updated through official channels or contact booking offices to reschedule their flights and obtain further details.

The airline also confirmed that passengers from flight RB 502, which was en route from Sharjah, UAE to Damascus on Saturday before being diverted to Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia, have been safely accommodated in a local hotel.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its cooperation and for allowing passengers to disembark and stay comfortably in the city following efforts by Syrian Airlines to ensure their well-being,” the statement added.

The airline had briefly resumed operations on Saturday after an earlier temporary suspension prompted by the volatile security situation and regional airspace restrictions. Flights to Kuwait, Doha, and Sharjah were scheduled to resume, but Syrian Airlines had warned that all flights remained subject to last-minute changes or cancellations depending on security developments.

Syrian aviation authorities had announced the reopening of Syrian airspace on Saturday, deeming it safe for civil aviation in accordance with international standards. However, the decision was reversed quickly following new security escalations.

On Friday, the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority had initially closed Syrian airspace due to the heightened risk posed by the military exchanges between Israel and Iran.

As the situation evolves, Syrian Airlines continues to urge travellers to arrive at the airport well ahead of their scheduled departure times, as flight schedules remain highly fluid and may change without notice.
