Washington – The United States reaffirmed its support for a unified Syria that respects the rights of its religious and ethnic minorities and maintains peace with its neighbours.

In an exclusive statement to +963, a State Department spokesperson said: “We support a unified Syria that is at peace with its neighbours and respects the rights of its religious and ethnic minorities. We are closely monitoring the situation. We continue to call on the Syrian government to hold all perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions.”

“The U.S. government continues to engage all parties to ensure security and calm for all Syrians. The Administration supports repealing the Caesar Act,” the spokesperson added.

The statement underscores Washington’s ongoing engagement with the interim Syrian government and its commitment to supporting stability and security in the country.

Earlier this month, President Ahmad Al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani met with a U.S. delegation in Damascus to discuss cooperation between Syria and the United States. The talks focused on implementing the March 10 agreement, including integrating the Syrian Democratic Forces into the national army, and exploring avenues for strengthening security and regional stability.

The U.S. delegation emphasized the importance of accountability and the protection of civilian rights as essential elements of a unified and stable Syria.

The meetings followed Al-Sharaa’s visit to Washington earlier in November, where he held talks with President Donald Trump and senior U.S. officials. The discussions included support for long-term investment and reconstruction in Syria, as well as measures to lift sanctions under the Caesar Act.
