The long-anticipated formation of Syria’s Interim Government is set to be officially announced on Saturday, following a delay from its initial early March schedule.

A source close to the Syrian Transitional Administration disclosed to +963 that the announcement will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 29. 2025, with approximately 100 individuals in attendance.

The source confirmed that key ministers for the Provisional Government, including Asaad al-Shibani (Foreign Affairs), Marhaf Abu Qasra (Defence), and Ali Kaddah (Interior), will retain their positions in the interim government.
Additionally, Hamza al-Mustafa is expected to take over the Ministry of Information and Media.

Activists with ties to the transitional administration reported that the new government will consist of 22 technocratic ministers chosen for their expertise and competence. Some activists also mentioned the inclusion of two ministers with affiliations to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Raid al-Saleh, Director of the Syrian Civil Defence Organization (White Helmets), is expected to head a newly established Ministry, likely named the Ministry of Disasters. Among other ministerial nominees, Hind Qabaouat is being considered for the Ministry of Social Affairs, while Marwan Halabi is a candidate for the Ministry of Higher Education.

The Syrian Transitional Administration had initially planned to announce the interim government in early March, but the decision was postponed without any official explanation.

Under Syria’s recent constitutional declaration, the position of Prime Minister has been abolished, placing the responsibility of forming the new government in the hands of Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of the interim government.

The establishment of an inclusive civilian government representing all Syrians without exclusion remains a key demand from Western and international actors. Such a government is seen as crucial to garnering support for Syria and facilitating potential sanctions relief.

Late last February, United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen stated that the formation of an inclusive government could play a critical role in determining whether Western sanctions on Syria would be lifted.
