Aleppo, north Syria – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Thursday that they had captured a senior commander of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, northern Syria.
The SDF said that its special operations units carried out a precise security operation in the town of Maskanah, east of Aleppo, resulting in the arrest of one of ISIS’s top commanders, with support and coordination from the U.S.-led International Coalition.
According to a statement published on the SDF’s official Facebook page, the operation focused on monitoring and tracking Ahmed Khalaf al-Hussein, a local resident of Maskanah. SDF units raided his hideout and apprehended him without any casualties.
Initial investigations revealed that al-Hussein had been leading a cell responsible for procuring materials and equipment used in manufacturing car bombs, intended for attacks against both civilians and security forces.

The SDF noted that the operation was part of a broader series of ongoing security campaigns this month targeting ISIS remnants across northeastern Syria.
It added that these operations have led to the dismantling of several ISIS cells and the arrest of multiple members and leaders, as part of continued efforts to ensure stability and security in the region.
Earlier this month, the SDF announced two separate operations in cooperation with the International Coalition in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, targeting ISIS cells involved in attacks against civilians and security personnel.
