Aleppo, Syria – Four people were injured on Monday following clashes between the Asayish internal security forces and units of the Ministry of Defense of the Syrian Interim Government in Aleppo, northern Syria.

According to our correspondent, the clashes took place in the Kurdish-held neighbourhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafieh, involving checkpoints at Al-Jazeera, Al-Sikka, and Al-Shaqif, with several explosions reported from falling shells in the area.

The Asayish stated in a Facebook post that one of their joint checkpoints with the Interim Government near Shihaan Roundabout in Al-Ashrafieh was attacked by Ministry of Defense units, resulting in two Asayish members being injured while performing routine duties.

“Asayish responded to the sources of fire while exercising restraint to prevent the escalation of the clashes,” the statement said. “We will not stand idle in the face of attacks or provocations and will take all necessary measures to protect our personnel and the areas we secure, ensuring the safety of civilians.”

The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that two members of the Syrian Civil Defense were injured due to fire from the Asayish at a checkpoint manned by the internal security forces. SANA added that the clashes forced the closure of the Gaziantep–Aleppo Road near al-Lairamoon and Shihaan roundabouts.

Earlier, on October 6, clashes erupted in Al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud between Asayish forces and the Syrian Interim Government after roads leading to the neighbourhoods were blocked. On October 7, an official source from the Syrian Interim Government announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached for the two neighbourhoods, according to Syrian News Channel Al-Ikhbariya.
