Asaad al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Transitional Government, is attending the 51st session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, with the participation of heads of government and foreign ministers from across the Islamic world, according to the official Syrian News Agency (SANA).
According to Anadolu Agency, approximately 40 prime ministers and foreign ministers are taking part in the two-day summit.
The agency reported that around 1,000 participants are attending, representing the 57 OIC member states, affiliated institutions, observer states, and various international organisations.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan assumed the presidency of the summit from Cameroonian Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella, the outgoing Chair of the OIC Council, and delivered the opening speech.

Anadolu Agency noted that the session is addressing several key issues, including the ongoing Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, the recent military escalation between Israel and Iran, as well as other matters of concern to the Islamic world.
Last August, foreign ministers of OIC member states held an extraordinary meeting at the Organisation’s General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The emergency session was convened in response to intensified Israeli attacks on Gaza and the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was established on September 25, 1969, during a summit held in Rabat, the capital of Morocco.
