Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi and U.S. envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack in Amman, Jordan on Saturday to discuss the implementation of a ceasefire in southern Syria’s Suwayda province.

According to Jordan’s state-run Petra News Agency, the talks focused on stabilizing the ceasefire, which came into effect early Saturday following a week of heavy clashes between Druze factions and tribal fighters.

The Jordanian foreign minister and the U.S. envoy voiced full support for the ceasefire deal and reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.

Both officials welcomed the Syrian government’s pledge to hold those responsible for civilian abuses in Suwayda accountable. They also called for rejecting violence, sectarianism, and incitement.

The three sides agreed on several measures to support the ceasefire, including the deployment of Syrian security forces to Suwayda, the release of all detainees, and efforts to promote local reconciliation and restore civil peace. The plan also includes facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid to affected areas.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani thanked Jordan and the United States for their role in brokering the ceasefire, stressing Damascus’s commitment to enforcing the agreement and protecting civilians.

Earlier Saturday, U.S. envoy Barrack confirmed the ceasefire deal was reached between Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with backing from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The agreement was also supported by Turkey, Jordan, and regional neighbors.

Barrack urged Druze, Bedouin, and Sunni communities in Suweyda to lay down their arms and cooperate in building a “new, unified Syria” in peace with its neighbors.
