Hasakah, northeast Syria – A new group of Syrian families left Al-Arisha displacement camp in Hasakah province on Sunday as part of an ongoing UN-backed voluntary return program aimed at helping families return home as security conditions slowly improve.

Local outlet Hawar News, affiliated with the Kurdish-led Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria, reported that 284 people from 57 families originally from Deir ez-Zor province departed the camp on Sunday.

Camp officials said this is the twelfth organized return convoy since the gradual repatriation plan began months ago in coordination with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

According to camp sources, most of the returnees are women and children. Transport was arranged to help them reach their hometowns in Deir ez-Zor safely.

In late May, another group of nearly 200 people left the same camp as part of this phased effort to reduce the pressure on displacement camps and rebuild communities in eastern Syria, an area that has suffered years of conflict, displacement, and instability.

The program reflects broader efforts by local authorities and international organizations to support safe and voluntary returns where conditions allow. Many areas of Deir ez-Zor remain fragile and under mixed control, highlighting the challenges facing returnees as they try to rebuild their lives.
