Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria.
“We thank the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, for the decision to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria,” the SDF commander said.
In a post on X, Abdi added that lifting the sanctions will have a positive impact on the country.
He emphasised that Syria and its people have always deserved the best.
“We hope that this step will be invested in supporting stability and reconstruction in Syria, ensuring a better future for all Syrians,” he said.
Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump said that “there is a new government in Syria that we hope will be able to achieve stability.”
Speaking at the Saudi–American Investment Forum, Trump added that Syria has experienced immense suffering, but now has a new government in place.

He noted that the United States has taken the first step toward normalising relations with Syria, announcing that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani, at the end of this week.
Trump also stated that Washington will lift the economic sanctions imposed on Syria in order to offer Syrians a new opportunity.
“For the first time in decades, there will be normal relations between the United States of America and Syria,” he said.
The U.S President delivered a message to the Syrian people, saying, “Let us see something special from you for your future.”
