Quneitra, southwestern Syria- The Israeli military conducted a new incursion into southwestern Syria on Wednesday, opening fire on a village in the Quneitra countryside, local sources reported.

According to residents, Israeli forces stationed at Tel al-Ahmar Al-Gharbi fired intensively at the village of Kudna in the Quneitra countryside, near the southern Syrian border, late Tuesday night. Ibrahim al-Akta’, a resident of the village, told +963 that the gunfire came unexpectedly and without any prior provocation from the Syrian side. He added that Israeli reconnaissance aircraft had been flying intensively over the area since the morning.

Meanwhile, the “Horan Free League” news site reported that Israeli military units, accompanied by armoured vehicles, had advanced into the western district of Jaba in northern Quneitra, conducting search operations under heavy aerial surveillance.

Earlier, Israeli forces had also carried out a separate incursion into the villages of Maariya, Abdin, Qureiz al-Wawi, and Kuwaya in western Daraa province, southern Syria. Local sources indicated that during this operation, Israeli troops destroyed several military positions belonging to the former Syrian regime.

In a related development, the “Sawt al-Asima” news outlet reported that residents of Arneh, a village in the Damascus countryside, blocked the entry of five vehicles carrying humanitarian aid from Israel. The aid had reportedly originated from the town of Hader, located in the Syrian-controlled part of the Golan Heights, which is currently under the control of the Israeli Defence Forces.

Israeli Defense Minister’s Statement

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, during a visit to Mount Hermon in the northeastern part of Israel on Tuesday, emphasized that the Israeli military is prepared to maintain its presence in Syria indefinitely.

“Israel will maintain control over the security zone and Mount Hermon and ensure that the entire buffer zone in southern Syria remains demilitarized and free from threats,” Katz stated.

He added, “Every morning, when the Syrian leader wakes up in his palace in Damascus, he will see the Israeli military watching him from the heights of Mount Hermon.” His remarks referred to Ahmed al-Sharaa, the leader of Syria’s transitional government.

The situation remains tense as Israel continues its military manoeuvres in southern Syria amid growing regional instability.
