Deir Ezzor, east Syria – Syrian Internal Security forces arrested more than twenty former fighters from the deposed regime and Iran-backed factions in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor early Thursday morning, security sources told +963.
According to a security official, the operation began at dawn, when Internal Security cordoned off the town of Ghariba near Al-Mayadin in eastern Deir Ezzor.
The raid led to the arrest of 23 former regime loyalists and members of Iran-backed militias. Weapons and ammunition were also seized after intelligence reports indicated that several fighters had fled from Al-Bukamal to Ghariba in recent days.
“The operation was launched without prior announcement to prevent the suspects from escaping, as happened during the last sweep in Al-Bukamal near the Iraqi border,” the source added.

The official noted that a wider security plan is underway to stabilize Deir Ezzor province, details of which will be announced later.
In a related development, Internal Security patrols arrested several drug traffickers during another raid in Al-Mayadin.
Earlier this week, Internal Security announced the end of a major security operation in Al-Bukamal, which resulted in the arrest of more than fifty wanted individuals on charges ranging from illegal arms possession to drug trafficking and threatening public safety.
Colonel Dhirar Al-Shamlan, Deir Ezzor’s Internal Security commander, confirmed that the operation also targeted individuals linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“Our offices in Al-Bukamal remain open around the clock to receive complaints and reports,” Al-Shamlan said, emphasizing that the operations are part of a broader effort to restore security and stability across the region.
