Aleppo, north Syria – The Internal Security Forces affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government closed today the roads leading to the Kurdish-majority Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, northern Syria.

Our correspondent reported that the Internal Security Forces closed all roads leading to the two neighborhoods except for one route.

He added that the military and security checkpoints surrounding the neighborhoods are preventing civilians from entering or leaving the area.

According to the correspondent, the vicinity of the two neighborhoods witnessed military reinforcements from the Ministry of Defense of the Interim Government and the Internal Security Forces.

He also noted that residents of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods organized a demonstration to protest the closure of the access roads by the Internal Security Forces.

The Co-Chair of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh Neighborhoods Council, Hevin Suleiman, said last Saturday that the council has not received the necessary services related to infrastructure, health, and sanitation, similar to other neighborhoods in the city.

In a statement to +963, Suleiman added that the council is facing difficulties in providing essential services to residents due to a lack of resources.

She pointed out that some alleys and streets inside the neighborhoods are still without electricity due to difficulties in obtaining and installing electrical transformers, despite coordination with Aleppo’s municipal authorities.

She also stated that the council has been unable to distribute winter heating fuel because the Syrian Interim Government forces closed the Deir Hafer–Aleppo road.

Suleiman confirmed that food and medicine prices have increased due to the checkpoints surrounding the neighborhoods, describing this as a violation of the agreement signed with the Interim Government on April 1 this year.
