WASHINGTON – The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that several ISIS members, including a senior operative, were killed or captured in joint operations with partner forces in Syria and Iraq last month.
According to a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM said it conducted multiple operations from May 21 to 27 targeting ISIS networks in both countries. In eastern Syria, a U.S.-backed mission with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near Deir ez-Zor resulted in the arrest of an ISIS member.
In Iraq, coordinated operations with the Iraqi military took place in Salah al-Din, Kirkuk, and the Fallujah area, destroying several ISIS sites and resulting in the deaths of two ISIS fighters, the capture of a senior figure, and the seizure of weapons and ammunition.
“Operations like these underscore the commitment of USCENTCOM, along with our allies and partners, to the enduring defeat of ISIS in the region,” said CENTCOM Commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla.

CENTCOM emphasized that the goal is to disrupt ISIS’s ability to reconstitute, plan, and launch attacks against civilians, U.S. personnel, and allied forces.
Separately, the SDF confirmed earlier this week that its Tactical Operations Units (TOL), in cooperation with the U.S.-led international coalition, arrested a high-value Iraqi ISIS operative, Saleh Ali Ali, also known as Abu Khairallah and Abu Awab, inside al-Hol camp in northeast Syria.
According to the SDF, the suspect previously fought against Iraqi forces, later infiltrated al-Hol camp posing as a refugee, and resumed organizing ISIS cells from within the facility.
The SDF reiterated its ongoing campaign to dismantle ISIS networks across northeastern Syria, especially in volatile areas like al-Hol, a camp long known to host ISIS-linked individuals and families.
