Al-Hasakah, Syria – The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria said on Tuesday that a new round of negotiations with the interim government is expected in early January, aimed at overcoming obstacles in implementing the March 10 agreement.
Yasser Al-Suleiman, spokesperson for the Autonomous Administration’s negotiating delegation, told +963 that the upcoming would focus on resolving hurdles in applying the accord, which seeks to integrate governance in north-east Syria with national institutions.
“Our shared goal is to move beyond the war phase and reach a settlement that satisfies all parties,” Al-Suleiman said, adding that the next phase would coincide with the rollout of the new national currency and focus on civil peace, unity, and the creation of a unified Syrian army.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said a planned visit by their Commander-in-Chief, General Mazloum Abdi, to Damascus was postponed on Monday due to technical and logistical reasons. The trip, which was expected to include members of the negotiation delegation, will be rescheduled, the SDF Media Centre said on Facebook.
In a previous statement to +963, Al-Suleiman said progress has been made on military and security files, while stressing the importance of reactivating state institutions such as civil and land registries and universities in north-east Syria. Reopening border crossings with Turkey and Iraq is also a priority.
He added that institutional adjustments in the Autonomous Administration are designed to align local governance with state structures and protect the rights of all employees without exclusion.
