Brussels – Syrian political forces and independent figures are preparing to convene a consultative meeting in the Belgian capital next Saturday, aiming to discuss developments in Syria a year after the fall of the ousted regime.
According to an informed source who spoke to +963, the preparatory committee has issued invitations to fifty figures representing political and civic groups from across Syria’s diverse components.
The source said the meeting is intended to examine the first year following the collapse of the former regime and the ascent of interim president Ahmed Al-Sharaa, with a focus on evaluating the political, administrative, and social landscape that has taken shape during this sensitive period.
Participants are expected to conduct a comprehensive critical review of the past year, emphasizing the structural challenges faced by the new authorities, the process of rebuilding state institutions, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and assessing adherence to democratic principles.
The consultative gathering will also address whether Syria’s current administrative and political frameworks can meet public expectations for freedom, justice, and stability, the source added.
Discussions are further expected to explore prospects for the next phase in Syria, outlining potential pathways and options for strengthening joint national action.
The source noted that participants will work to develop an inclusive political vision rooted in citizenship, pluralism, and decentralization, rejecting authoritarianism and extremism, and ultimately shaping the foundations of a modern democratic state grounded in the free will of the Syrian people.
