Damascus – A Syrian military source told +963 on Monday that Russian forces are preparing to redeploy in southern Syria in the coming days, marking a renewed Russian presence in the region.

According to the source, the deployment will cover several areas in the rural parts of Daraa and Quneitra, carried out in coordination with the Syrian military police.

A separate source told the state news agency SANA that a joint Syrian–Russian delegation conducted a field tour across a number of military points in southern Syria. The visit aimed to assess the situation on the ground within the framework of ongoing cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier today, a +963 correspondent reported that a Russian–Turkish delegation also toured Daraa and Quneitra, including the border area facing the Golan Heights.

These movements come a day after two delegations, one military and one sports-related, held talks in Damascus with officials of the Syrian interim government.

The Ministry of Defence of the interim government said that a high-level Russian delegation, led by Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yunus-bek Yevkurov, met Defence Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra in Damascus.
The ministry stated that both sides discussed military cooperation and ways to enhance coordination in line with shared interests.

Separately, Minister of Youth and Sports Mohammed Samah Hamoud received Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev during an official visit aimed at strengthening sports cooperation and developing joint projects.

According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the talks covered future cooperation, exchange of expertise, sports infrastructure development, and support for youth-focused programmes.
The ministers also toured the al-Fayhaa Sports City and al-Abaseen Stadium, including the gymnastics hall, the main basketball court, the secondary hall, and the football pitch, where they reviewed ongoing maintenance and development work.
