Hasakah, northeast Syria – The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported on Monday that ISIS has carried out more than 150 attacks in northern and eastern Syria since the fall of the Assad regime at the end of last year.
In a statement, the SDF said that between December 8, 2024, and September 20, 2025, ISIS carried out 153 attacks, signaling an effort to reorganize and expand its operations in the region.
“Despite the heavy losses it has suffered, ISIS continues its attempts to reorganize, exploiting the chaos in parts of Syria and unstable conditions in areas beyond our control,” the statement read.
The SDF noted that since the 2019 Battle of Baghuz, ISIS has shifted to a cell-based and guerrilla warfare approach, increasing the frequency of local attacks, assassinations, and covert recruitment.
The forces said that, in coordination with the U.S.-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, they conducted 70 operations, including three large-scale sweeps, resulting in the arrest of 95 terrorists, including three senior leaders. Six ISIS fighters, including two top commanders, were killed, and significant amounts of weapons, ammunition, and identification documents were seized.

The SDF reported that 30 of its fighters were killed, 12 were injured, and six civilians died during these operations.
The SDF emphasized that ISIS remains a threat and called for continued international support, including operational and logistical assistance, noting that counterterrorism efforts must be paired with development projects to prevent the spread of extremist ideology.
The Kurdish-led forces have been a key partner of the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS since 2014. While ISIS was militarily defeated in Syria in 2019, sleeper cells continue to operate in parts of the country.
The coalition maintains several bases in northeastern Syria, including the Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor and the Kharab al-Jir base in eastern Hasakah, which remain central to ongoing counterterrorism operations.
