The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday that the United States delegation that visited the Syrian capital Damascus discussed the issue of ISIS with Interim Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa.
It added, in a statement published on Facebook, that Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the US Central Command, and the US Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack, held a meeting with Al-Sharaa in Damascus.
It pointed out that Admiral Cooper and the US Envoy to Syria thanked Al-Sharaa for his support in confronting ISIS in Syria.
The US delegation affirmed that eliminating the threat of ISIS in Syria would reduce the risk of an attack by the organization on American soil, according to CENTCOM.
It stated that the delegation stressed that work is underway at the same time to achieve the vision of US President Donald Trump for a prosperous Middle East and a stable Syria that enjoys peace with itself and its neighbors.

It noted that Cooper and Barrack praised the role of Damascus in supporting efforts to recover American citizens inside Syria, and the commitment to continue efforts that support US objectives in the Middle East, including negotiations on integrating various Syrian armed factions into the army of the interim authorities.
It added that US and Syrian officials agreed to meet in the future to ensure that both countries remain focused on confronting ISIS in Syria.
Earlier on Thursday, Interim Syrian President Ahmad Al-Sharaa met with a US delegation at the People’s Palace in the capital Damascus.
The Syrian Presidency said that Al-Sharaa received the Commander of the US Central Command along with the US Special Envoy to Syria and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of a number of Syrian ministers and officials.
It added, in a statement published on Facebook, that the meeting discussed prospects for cooperation in political and military fields in a way that serves common interests and strengthens the foundations of security and stability in Syria and the region.
