Idlib, northwest Syria – A powerful explosion shook the western outskirts of Idlib city in northwest Syria on Thursday, according to our correspondent.
Initial information indicates the blast occurred at an ammunition depot on the city’s western edge.
Syria’s state news agency (SANA) reported that “an explosion of unknown cause struck near Idlib city, with initial reports of injuries.”
On July 24, a massive explosion hit the town of Maaret Misrin in northern Idlib, killing six people and injuring more than 150 others.
At the time, Idlib Governor Mohammed Abdul Rahman said that civil defence and ambulance teams evacuated the wounded to several hospitals and secured the area. He stressed that the province was closely monitoring the incident with the relevant authorities, noting that the safety of civilians was a top priority, according to Syria’s state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV.

The Syria Civil Defence (White Helmets) reported that six members of its garment production facility were injured in that blast.
A day later, three people were killed and three others injured when unexploded ordnance detonated in the village of Termanin in northern Idlib.
That explosion also destroyed one home and damaged several others nearby. According to a local source at the time, the detonation was caused by a person attempting to dismantle unexploded ordnance to extract copper for resale.
