Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian army announced on Saturday the killing of two armed individuals and the arrest of another who attempted to illegally cross the northern border from Syria into Jordan.

According to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), the Eastern Military Zone’s border guards successfully intercepted a group of armed individuals attempting to infiltrate Jordanian territory on Friday. The army engaged the group in accordance with rules of engagement, killing two infiltrators in a firefight, while the remaining members retreated into Syrian territory.

In a separate incident, the army also reported the arrest of a man who attempted to illegally cross into Jordan from Syria in the northern border region. In an official statement, the military confirmed the individual was apprehended and handed over to the competent authorities for legal action.

This incident follows heightened security efforts by the Jordanian military in recent months. On May 1, the army foiled a significant attempt to smuggle narcotics from Syria into Jordan.

A statement from the Jordanian Armed Forces at that time noted that border guards, in coordination with military intelligence and the anti-narcotics department, thwarted a smuggling operation along the eastern border.

The army reported tracking a group of smugglers trying to cross the border unlawfully, prompting rapid response patrols to engage under standard rules of engagement. The smugglers fled back into Syria, leaving behind a large quantity of seized narcotics.

The Jordanian military reaffirmed its commitment to deploying its full capabilities to prevent all forms of infiltration and smuggling across its borders.
