Damascus, Syria – The Syrian presidency on Saturday announced an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the southern province of Suwayda, following a U.S.-brokered agreement between Syria and Israel.
In an official statement, the presidency said: “We announce a full and immediate ceasefire in Suwayda, in the interest of preserving Syrian lives.”
The statement called on all parties to “grant the state and its forces the space needed to implement the ceasefire with national responsibility” and urged full compliance with the decision.
The Interior Ministry’s Internal Security Forces began deploying across Suwayda to enforce the ceasefire, according to the presidency.

The statement warned that “any violation of this decision will be considered a direct breach of national sovereignty and will be met with necessary legal action in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws.”
Earlier Saturday, U.S. envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack announced that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had reached a ceasefire agreement, backed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and supported by Turkey, Jordan, and neighboring states.

Druze Leadership Issues Ceasefire Implementation Plan
The spiritual leadership of Syria’s Druze community issued a parallel statement on Saturday outlining mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire.
It said government Internal Security checkpoints would be deployed outside Suwayda’s administrative borders to prevent clashes and infiltration.
“No party will be allowed to enter border villages for 48 hours following the ceasefire to enable security deployments from the opposite side and avoid surprise attacks,” the statement read.
The Druze leadership also guaranteed safe and protected exit for tribal members still inside Suwayda, escorted by local factions “without interference or harm from any side.”
Designated humanitarian corridors through Busra al-Harir and Bosra al-Sham (towns in southern Syria, part of the Daraa Governorate) will be used for medical and emergency evacuations, it said.
The statement called on local groups to remain within Suwayda’s boundaries and avoid provocations or unilateral actions, warning that any breach of the deal could collapse the entire agreement.
