On Thursday, May 29, a total of 1,100 Syrian refugees residing in Jordan’s Marijib Al-Fahd camp voluntarily returned to Syria this week, according to a report by Al-Mamlaka TV.
The Jordanian broadcaster said the return convoys are part of a broader humanitarian initiative spearheaded by the Farah Endowment in cooperation with the Jordanian government. Refugees participating in the program reportedly took their furniture and personal belongings with them during the repatriation process.
According to the report, around 70% of Syrian refugees living in the Marijib Al-Fahd camp have expressed their willingness to return to Syria, reflecting a significant shift in sentiment among displaced communities.
The Farah Endowment confirmed it is continuing its efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian refugees from neighbouring countries, including Jordan, by coordinating with relevant authorities and offering logistical support.
Meanwhile, on May 28, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) announced its contribution to the voluntary return of approximately 1,000 Syrian refugees from Europe.
In a statement posted on its official website, Frontex noted that these returns followed the political transition in Syria after the fall of the previous regime. The agency emphasised that all returnees must be fully informed of their rights and that participation must remain entirely voluntary, in accordance with European Union regulations and international protection standards.
“Frontex is committed to supporting EU member states in providing a dignified and lawful path for Syrian refugees who choose to return home,” the agency said.
The voluntary repatriation program operated by Frontex began on March 20. Since then, it has assisted in the return of 1,000 Syrians.
“The desire of Syrian refugees to return to their homeland is a profound humanitarian aspiration,” said Frontex Executive Director Hans Ligtens. “It reflects their yearning to reunite with family, rebuild their lives, and reclaim their dignity.”
