Damascus — Israel and Turkey have reached an understanding to prevent military conflict between their forces operating in Syria, according to a report by Middle East Eye on Wednesday.

Citing informed sources, the report says both countries agreed to establish a 24/7 direct communication line to quickly manage potential military escalations. Turkey has reportedly offered to deploy ground forces, including armored units and infantry, in Syria—but without air defense systems or radar equipment that could interfere with Israeli air operations.

Israeli officials did not oppose the Turkish deployment, particularly in areas north of Palmyra, as long as it does not threaten Israeli interests.

The agreement follows four rounds of meetings held in Baku, Azerbaijan, with a fifth round expected soon to expand the framework for deconfliction.

Separately, Israel Hayom reported that both nations have reached broader understandings to coordinate their military presence in Syria and avoid unintended confrontations.

One key area of concern remains the T-4 airbase near Palmyra, previously used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and frequently targeted by Israeli airstrikes. Turkish teams reportedly inspected the base before an Israeli strike rendered it inoperable, according to regional intelligence sources.

Additionally, CNN reported last week that representatives from the Syrian transitional government and Israel held direct talks in Azerbaijan, attended by senior Israeli military officials.
