The Ministry of Communications and Technology sponsored an artificial intelligence conference, “AI-SYRIA 2025,” which was launched in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Tuesday, May 6.

According to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the conference, organised by the Arab Union for Internet and Telecommunications and the Syrian Computer Society, aims to highlight the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the Syrian economy and building an integrated digital society.

A distinguished group of academics, experts, and specialists in artificial intelligence is participating in the event, where four main topics are being discussed: sustainable development, big data challenges, innovation, and digital transformation policies.

The conference organisers emphasised “the importance of supporting young talents and providing a nurturing environment for technical initiatives, amid the rapid global developments in artificial intelligence,” according to the agency.

On Monday, May 5, the Minister of Communications and Technology in the Syrian Transitional Government, Abdul Salam Heikal, met with the Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Damascus, Margret Jakob, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between Syria and Germany in the fields of telecommunications and information technology, in support of digital transformation efforts.

Ambassador Jakob affirmed the German government’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people, noting that Germany has received the largest number of Syrian refugees and remains dedicated to its humanitarian obligations, according to SANA.

She added that the transitional phase in Syria presents both opportunities and challenges, and stressed the need for joint cooperation between the two countries, reaffirming Germany’s readiness to provide the necessary support to promote stability and development in Syria.
