The General Authority for Syrian Land and Sea Ports signed a strategic partnership contract on Thursday, May 01, with the French transport company CMA CGM France.
An informed source told the +963 that the contract was signed at the People’s Palace in Damascus in the presence of Ahmed al-Sharaa, president of the transitional government.
According to the source, the agreement involves the development and operation of the port of Latakia on Syria’s Mediterranean coast, with an estimated value of €230 million.

A previous statement from the authority confirmed that both sides also settled outstanding financial obligations accumulated over the past decade. The agreement reportedly includes provisions for implementing “new conditions and mechanisms” to enhance future operations at the facility.
Separately, in March, the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports issued a decision to set a 2% transit fee on trucks entering or crossing Syrian territory, including vehicles transiting through to foreign destinations or accessing free zones. The decision was announced via the authority’s official Telegram channel.
