Turkey’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloglu announced on Saturday, March 22,  that Ankara is preparing a comprehensive support plan for Syria’s transport and telecommunications sectors.

He stated that the initiative includes research on the structure of Syria’s transport, and telecommunications departments to assess their current capabilities and identify key areas for development.

In a statement reported by the “Turkey Now” news website, Uraloglu explained that the plan involves evaluating the performance of Syrian transport and telecommunications institutions and pinpointing operational gaps.

As part of this effort, Ankara will dispatch experts and technicians to Syria, providing technical and logistical support to Damascus, according to Uraloglu.

One of the plan’s objectives is to rehabilitate the Çobanbey–Aleppo and Fevzipaşa (Meydan Ekbez)–Aleppo railway lines, which connect Syrian territory to Turkey. Additionally,  the initiative aims to address deficiencies at Damascus and Aleppo airports while supporting the maintenance and repair of passenger aircraft.

The team, consisting of 25 personnel from Turkey’s General Directorate of the State Airports Authority, worked on various aspects of airport operations, including navigation systems, aeronautics electronics, peripheral electronics, security, airport rescue and firefighting.

According to the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Turkey has provided Damascus International Airport with 113 vehicles, devices and systems with 6 trucks to enhance flight safety within Syrian airspace.

Uraloglu also noted that the technical team is actively monitors landings, departures, and transit operations while improving the overall efficiency of takeoff and landing procedures in Syrian airspace and at Damascus Airport through upgraded air navigation systems.
