On Thursday, June 20, the Autonomous Administration in northern and eastern Syria reached an understanding with the transitional government concerning cooperation in the energy sector.
The official Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported that representatives from the Aleppo Provincial Council and the Ministry of Energy met with a delegation from the Autonomous Administration to discuss regional energy-related issues.
According to the Hawar News Agency, the understanding aims to strengthen joint cooperation between the Autonomous Administration and the transitional government, ease the burden on the Euphrates Dam, and safeguard its water reserves.
The agency noted that this agreement builds upon a series of previous understandings between the Autonomous Administration and the transitional government.
The Autonomous Administration’s delegation was led by Ziad Rustom, co-chair of its Energy Authority, and the meeting took place in the city of Aleppo.
Earlier this month, a delegation from the Autonomous Administration also held discussions with representatives of the Syrian Government in Damascus, addressing several key issues.
Brigadier General Ziad al-Ayesh, a member of the government committee tasked with implementing the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stated that the discussions were marked by a positive atmosphere and mutual commitment to the national interest.
He added that both sides agreed on several important issues and decided to form specialised subcommittees to oversee the implementation of the March 10 agreement signed between Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and General Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
The agreement between al-Sharaa and Abdi outlines the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces and its affiliated institutions into the structure of the Syrian state. This includes the Qamishli airport, oil and gas fields, and border crossings. The agreement also stresses the importance of a nationwide ceasefire, the return of displaced persons to their cities and towns across Syria, and a firm commitment to the country’s territorial integrity and rejection of partition.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Syrian Democratic Forces pledged their support for the new Syrian administration in its efforts to combat the remnants of the Assad regime. The accord further affirms the Kurdish community’s right to citizenship and constitutional recognition and guarantees the rights of all Syrians to representation and participation in the political process.
