He emphasised that \u201cLebanon is a state of institutions and judiciary, and such files cannot be handled in a random or media-driven manner outside official frameworks\u201d, adding that \u201cLebanese security agencies possess extensive capabilities and information, but they cannot arrest or hand over any individual without a formal judicial request and a legally valid warrant\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The municipalities\u2019 statement also reaffirmed that Akkar towns and villages have hosted thousands of Syrian displaced persons since 2011 \u201cwithout consideration of their sectarian or political affiliations\u201d, describing them as \u201cliving witnesses to these communities\u2019 commitment to coexistence and their enduring concern for civil peace\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Media leaks and official concerns<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The raids coincided with heightened official and municipal concern in Lebanon following leaks published by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/qpojLdG2Quk?si=VvmMUzADv1UA09GN\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al Jazeera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, citing documents and recordings described as exclusive. These alleged movements of former Syrian regime elements in Lebanese border areas, particularly in the town of Al-Hayseh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the report, around 20 pilots who previously served in regime forces are currently living in Lebanon with their families, having been transferred via Iranian channels, and are allegedly seeking to join organised groups in preparation for potential military activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Malaeb questioned the legal plausibility of these claims, noting that \u201ctalk of around 20 Syrian pilots staying in a Lebanese hotel raises logical questions\u201d. He explained that \u201cany hotel in Lebanon is legally obliged to register guests\u2019 IDs or passports and notify the General Security Directorate, making the presence of such a large number without the authorities\u2019 knowledge highly unlikely\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conversely, Syrian military and strategic expert Brigadier Abu Al-Baraa told <\/span><b>+963<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the danger of these leaks lies in their security implications. He argued that \u201cthe movement of remnants of the former Syrian regime inside Lebanese territory constitutes a direct threat to Syrian national security\u201d, asserting that such activity is taking place \u201cunder Iranian direction aimed at destabilising the region, particularly Syria\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>The Lebanese state\u2019s position and co-ordination with Damascus<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lebanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri expressed concern over the reports, urging Lebanese security agencies to verify the information and take necessary measures. In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TarekMitri\/status\/2006973174806618609\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post on X<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he stated that \u201cthe role of Lebanese security services obliges them to deal seriously with such data\u201d, warning of \u201cthe consequences of any actions that may threaten Syria\u2019s unity, security, and stability, whether carried out within Lebanon or launched from its territory\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commenting on this stance, Hossam said that these developments would place additional pressure on Lebanese\u2013Syrian relations, which have witnessed limited tension since early 2025. He pointed to accumulated contentious files, most notably \u201cthe Syrian refugee issue, Syrian deposits in Lebanese banks, and border control\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For his part, Abu Al-Baraa stressed that \u201cthe Syrian government and relevant security agencies have taken a series of appropriate measures to confront these groups, in direct and prior co-ordination with Lebanese security services\u201d.
