Maduro himself rejected the traditional title of \u201cFirst Lady\u201d in her case, instead referring to her as the \u201cFirst Combatant\u201d (<\/span>Primera Combatiente<\/span><\/i>), a term steeped in revolutionary ideology and reflective of her active role in governance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Flores began her political career as a loyal supporter of Hugo Ch\u00e1vez. Following Ch\u00e1vez\u2019s failed coup attempt in 1992, she emerged as a key legal figure, serving as a principal lawyer on his defense team. She is credited with helping design the legal strategy that led to his release from prison in 1994 \u2013 an outcome that enabled his political comeback and eventual rise to the presidency.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the consolidation of the so-called Bolivarian Revolution, Flores steadily rose through Venezuela\u2019s power structures, assuming positions that granted her exceptional control over the legislative and judicial branches of the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

She served as president of the National Assembly from 2006 to 2011, becoming the first woman to hold the post and succeeding her future husband, Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.
