{"id":38762,"date":"2025-07-10T10:12:49","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/963media.com\/en\/?p=38762"},"modified":"2025-07-10T10:12:49","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T10:12:49","slug":"us-moves-to-repeal-the-caesar-act-sanctions-on-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/963media.com\/en\/10\/07\/2025\/us-moves-to-repeal-the-caesar-act-sanctions-on-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"US Moves to Repeal the Caesar Act Sanctions on Syria\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Washington &#8211; <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican Congressman Joe Wilson on Wednesday introduced a new bill in the U.S. Congress seeking to repeal the \u201cCaesar Act\u201d sanctions imposed on Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/international\/5393126-joe-wilson-sanctions-syria-repeal\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hill<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Wilson submitted an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) &#8211; the annual defense budget legislation that must be passed by Congress by the end of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI\u2019m trying to use every mechanism to repeal this law as soon as possible,\u201d Wilson told the newspaper. \u201cAs the Caesar law was passed and extended through the National Defense Authorization Act, I am hopeful that the repeal could also move through the same vehicle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wilson emphasized that unless the law is repealed, \u201cinvestors will not take the risks required for long term investment in Syria which will be necessary to Make Syria Great Again.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Read also: <a href=\"https:\/\/963media.com\/en\/10\/07\/2025\/uae-lebanon-and-usa-a-new-roadmap-for-syria-and-israel\/#\">UAE, Lebanon, and USA: A New Roadmap for Syria and Israel<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last May, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a 180-day suspension of Caesar Act sanctions, following an order by President Donald Trump to lift sanctions on Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On June 30, Trump signed an executive order officially lifting the sanctions, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/06\/30\/trump-syria-sanctions-israel-deal\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Axios<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">U.S. officials said the Syrian government had \u201ctaken significant steps toward greater stability,\u201d prompting Washington to end the national emergency regarding Syria first declared in 2004.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision also includes a possible review of Syria\u2019s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism and directs the State Department to revisit the classification of Hay\u2019at Tahrir al-Sham &#8211; an Islamist group originally formed by Al-Jolani (Syria\u2019s current president Ahmad Al-Sharaa) as Jabhat al-Nusra, an Al-Qaeda affiliate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The White House confirmed that the order, which takes effect this Tuesday, keeps sanctions in place on former president Bashar al-Assad, his aides, human rights violators, ISIS, Iranian proxies, and anyone linked to Syria\u2019s chemical weapons program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The executive order also relaxes some export controls on certain goods and grants specific exemptions for foreign aid restrictions on Syria.
