Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria –<\/b> Residents of the town of Al-Hari in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside discovered a mass grave early Friday in the Syrian desert near the border with Iraq, containing the remains of several individuals killed under unknown circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to our correspondent, the bodies are believed to be members of the Iran-backed Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas Brigade, including the group\u2019s armament officer, Abu Zainab al-Mashhadani, originally from Al-Bukamal. Al-Mashhadani and his group had gone missing following the collapse of the former regime. Among the deceased was also Saleh al-Wuhaibi, the brother of the brigade\u2019s commander, who was from the town of Al-Mayadin.<\/span><\/p>\n

The reporter added that the bodies, which had been decomposing for several months, were handed over to the families for burial in Al-Hari Cemetery near Al-Bukamal.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Thursday, residents of Al-Masrab in western Deir ez-Zor also discovered the body of an unidentified man dressed in the former regime\u2019s military uniform on the edge of the town\u2019s desert area.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just last month, three people were killed and another injured in landmine explosions across Deir ez-Zor province. Local sources told <\/span>+963<\/b> at the time that Ahmad Nassif al-Salbi died when a war remnant landmine exploded as he attempted to remove it from his farmland in Al-Hari. Meanwhile, Abdul Majid al-Ahmad was killed and another injured when a group of youths stepped on a landmine while playing football in the nearby town of Al-Sayyal.<\/span><\/p>\n
