Hussam Najjar interpreted the coalition\u2019s rejection as part of an effort to pressure Damascus to fulfil these outstanding requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nonetheless, Najjar said the Syrian Interim Government is actively engaging with the United Nations Mission tasked with investigating chemical stockpiles and is leaving the door open to deeper cooperation. \u201cThe government is ready to coordinate with both Washington and the coalition to combat terrorism and smuggling,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the issue of foreign fighters, Najjar clarified that while the U.S. has not objected to their mere presence, it strongly opposes their appointment to military or political positions. \u201cYes, it may seem inconsistent, especially since the U.S. itself has given intelligence and military roles to non-Americans, but Damascus will comply gradually.
